Ogni singola copertina, ogni singola pagina tirata in
serigrafia, ogni scatto su pellicola, insomma tutto il fatto a mano mi
fa sorgere spontanea la domanda: PERCHE' FARLO?
A me piace pensare che chi pratica l'autoproduzione usi praticarla anche nella vita quotidiana.
So che sembro un'illlusa, ma oltre all'autoproduzione toutcourt,
riuscire a vivere il quanto più possibile a basso impatto. sia
ambientale che "umano" (intendo il cercare di stare il quanto più
possibile in armonia col prossimo, senza ostacolare nè infierire sulle
vite altrui, soprattutto se in maniera gratuita), è il senso che io vedo
dietro al fatto di fare autoproduzione.
Cioè se non si fanno autoproduzioni handmade con un senso etico, insomma per rendere il mondo un posto migliore, perché lo si fa?
Noi generazioni del terzo millennio, con tutto quello che la
tecnologia ci permette di fare senza sforzo, perchè stiamo recuperando
l'handmade che, nella maggior parte dei casi, risulta ben più costoso dell'analogo prodotto industriale? A volte mi pare che l'handmade
stia andando nella direzione opposta a quella per la quale mi ci sono
avvicinata, quella del fai da te "democratico", per diventare il nuovo
status symbol, di chi ha i soldi per farlo e per comprarlo. Insomma solo
la nuova moda.Cioè se non si fanno autoproduzioni handmade con un senso etico, insomma per rendere il mondo un posto migliore, perché lo si fa?
Invece per me, e per Ernest, la pratica dell'autoproduzione è innanzitutto una pratica di interazione sociale.
A proposito di interazioni sociali, è stato meraviglioso scoprire,
poco prima della mostra da Inuit, la bottega Il Cartiglio (in Via San Carlo 44, a Bologna) rilevata della neo-ernest Monica Nieddu.
Già amica di lunga data di Samantha, Monica è laureata in restauro del libro e fa questo e tanto altro!
E' una maga della carta, delle confezioni, ma soprattutto delle
rilegature ed è questo il valore aggiunto che ha apportato al nostro gruppo!
Qui sopra le foto delle cornicette fatte a mano appositamente per la
mostra, con cartone rivestito di tessuto tradizionale siciliano.
A Bologna sentivo la mancanza di un negozio come Relma, specializzato in rilegatoria, e andavo in giro elemosinando pezzi di tela, adesso... c'è Monica!

These days, after the opening of the small bookshop Inuit, and more often since I came back from my Parisian experience, I happen to think at the concept of D.I.Y. and the many ways in which this term is used in comics world, but not only.
For each hand-bound cover, for each silkscreened page, for each picture shot on film, in short for all hand made products the question is: WHY?
I like to think that those who practice D.I.Y. philosophy practice it in everyday life.
I know I sound like a dreamer, but D.I.Y. philosophy for me is also trying to live as low impact as possible. both environmentally and "humanly" (I mean trying to be in harmony with others, without hindering people's lives), this is the meaning I see behind handmade and self production.
In short, if you are not trying to make the world a better place, why you do it?
Now, in the third millennium, technology allows us to do a lot of things without effort, but we are recovering the handmade that, in most cases, it is much more expensive than the industrial product? Sometimes I think that handmade is going in the opposite direction to that for which I have approached it, the do-it-yourself "democratic" view, to become the new status symbol of those who have the money to do it and to buy it. In short, only the new fashion.
Instead, for me, and Ernest, the practice of selfproduction is primarily a practice of social interaction.
